bio
A multidisciplinary artist, Consuelo G. Flores is recognized as a leading Los Angeles Culture Bearer and programming professional who’s worked in the cultural, literary, media, and visual arts sectors. She was Self Help Graphics’ 2017 Legacy Artist for her extensive work in Chicano art and culture. Renowned for her Day of the Dead work, her installations/altars have been exhibited in museums, galleries, cultural centers, and businesses throughout Southern California. Her creative work has also included curating multiple art exhibits, producing literary altars, cultural tours for the MTA, fashions, and presenting academic lectures on the traditional and contemporary history of the celebration. She’s been interviewed by scholars from Rutgers University and Fordham University as well as several media outlets such as Good Morning, America, NPR, Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, Medium, and all Los Angeles local news stations. She held executive positions in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Departments of the entertainment unions WGAW, AFTRA and SAG-AFTRA, where she worked toward equity in hiring and better representation of disenfranchised talent in entertainment. She’s currently working with the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in the launch of Entertainment Industry Writers of Color Cohort, their new E-Dinner Series for Creative Workers Exchange, a new program offering various learning and networking opportunities, in partnership with Arts for LA. Consuelo has an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Antioch University, Los Angeles. She’s passionate about creating educational programs and professional opportunities through art and storytelling.
