​Azucena Ortega is a 17 year old Mexican-American artist and performer. She is a senior at Providence High School in Burbank, California. Azucena was born in Los Angeles, California. Her family is originally from Jalisco, Mexico and she’s the youngest of three daughters. She love to paint, especially protest art, observing everything around her and expressing her feelings about them. She usually uses acrylic paint, but is also open to other materials such as pencil, colored pencils, polymer clay, collage, and so much more. Azucena’s interest in art sparked when she was in the 6th grade, and her passion for protest art began in her freshman year of high school. She loves the arts outside of visual art as well: She loves to sing, play instruments, dance, and act. Her main objective is to make her audience feel inspired to get involved and make change. Azucena has entered her art in many exhibits, including the Naturaleza exhibit at the USC Caruso Catholic Center (2019), the 35x35 Bicentennial Exhibit at the Mexican Consulate (2021), and so much more. She has also won many awards in her time at the Los Angeles Music and Art school.
